Realm Balance

edited April 2020 in General Board
Just curious as to what others think when it comes to the balance of Realms in DAoC as a whole. I'm talking about all playstyles, solo/smallman/8v8/zerg. If you were in charge of DAoC what would you change or not change that wouldn't unbalance the game for other play styles.

Edit: Added Or not change.

  • That depends on if your serious or looking for the healers need dds and wardens need 2h crowd's opinion.
  • Ok well here’s the news currently hib is very well balanced they have great utility and can make good groups both melee and caster very strong with a minimum of 3 toons bard warden Druid
    Not fake news fact
Mid again is pretty well balanced again good utility more balanced towards the melee side of things but can still make good hybrid and caster groups
Albion very good caster groups but have to be specialised very poor utility melee groups are soso need to be specced just right hybrid groups pretty good overall the least balanced realm mainly due to utility and melee due to under used toons that don’t excell in groups a few tweaks on certain toons could make it better.
My 2 cents let’s see what the brain trust think.
  • I think Reavers should get to swing a 2-handed morning star...
  • I think I'm super duper surprised Brut only recommends improvement for alb tank groups. Also very surprised he used a Trumpism in his post.

    Not.
  • Hmm.

Alb has weak utility, however they are the only realm that has a class perma banned from draft fights (theurgist) with a 2nd class usually banned (caster necro) because it's so cheesy. Alb is also regularly banned because it's too strong... But yes, it's only one facet of the game.

But tbh In my mind realm balance is pretty good, necros and theurgists included.

I would however nerf the theurg pet range to 1750 (from 2000), but that mainly affects 8 v 8 as theurgists aren't really used in the current rvr action (mainly zerg fights where dps is king).

I wouldn't consider the alb tanker weak, however they really underperform in the current rvr action, where if you don't end your fight in 20 seconds you will get jammed.

  • Actually kat I agree these threads are a waste of time you are 100 percent correct.
  • I asked this question because I know there are things I don't agree with about the game that I would like changed. I also know that my changes would most likely create an imbalance even with the best of intentions. This has made me think about what it must be like to be in Broadsword's position. I've been reading a lot of posts lately of people asking for changes and many of them I can't even believe what is being asked. I don't always agree with Broadsword and also wonder at some of their decisions but I ask myself, "would my changes be any better?"

Just remember... Nobody asked for necro revamp a few years back. Was Remedy even a thing before a few years ago? I don't even know... Were people complaining about assassin's before poison revamp? Nope. It took a lot of skill to be a good assassin, and "old school" assassins absolutely loved that, because it separated them from the rest.

It's a proven fact that Broadsword ruins 83% of everything they touch

There needs to be improvements or over hauls to some of the lesser played classes. Top 4 least played classes are bonedancer, banshee, mauler and theurgest. These 4 classes can greatly improve a fight when played and sometime bring things to a realm they normally wouldn't have.

Example a bonedancer brings TWF to mid because maulers and BDs are the only classes that can use TWF on mid. Lately there is an average of 3 BDs during us prime. Lowest is just me and the most I've seen is 5.

There are more banshees running around then BDs and a few theurgest. IMO there should be a decent amount of all classes. You know there is. A problem of classes being to powerful when there are 25 or more of the same class and spec running in a 60 man BG.

I would honestly add unique spells to these classes to make them more interesting to play. Some need major changes. Rather then nerf a class too much I would give these 4 classes something that would make ppl pay attention more to combat.

Example: curse a person so when they die and get rezzed ,a skeleton is raised to the rezzer like the dead normally would be and make it lvl 50 and aggro the rezzer. Therefore making the rezzer watch for the curse debuff and wait to rez the dead person after the curse has gone away.

The reason people hate to PvP is they are afraid of failure
  • Please stop with the BD insanity.

People don't play BDs because of shitty pet pathing. The class itself is strong.

And yeah, please buff theurgists (?!), Maulers (?!!!!) and bainshees.
  • Amen Shoke ! Bd are super strong , learn to play
  • the most deathblows per player---and solo kills on the herald is and by alot.....

    bonedancer :)

Yes solo the bone dancer is very good because no one wants to deal with the pets in a group or in the BG. Therefore a lot if not most bone dancers play solo therefore giving over-exaggerated solo kills on The herald. You need to look at the perspective of group and BG play whereas midgard has no twf classes and other unique abilities like the totems , as the Hibernian mushrooms therefore the bone Army spec line has been weak and that's why I talk about improving the bone Army line because either the class needs to be overhauled or tweak because of the skeletons get lost or get stuck and that makes the bone dancers inept. Even solo if there's no skeleton pets healing the bone dancers worthless. So that's why there is no bone dancers in groups or usually in the BG because no one wants to deal with the pets and again hardly anybody playing bone dancers. If the pet line was fixed or overhauled I think there would be a lot more people playing bone dancers like enchanters or Eldritchs or heretics etc giving midgard twf in combat, because others classes in the other realms have it and there are alot of those classes being played. Giving alb and hib alot of twfs. Plus Bonedancers give other unique abilities that will benefit midgard.

Learn how to look at different perspectives besides soloing.

I might be wrong but the only alb calss wit TWF is the Reaver and i do not see that many of those around? Especialy in groups.

Every buffing of bds should not lead to more strength in solo fights, imo.
